Can you say what a busy year it has been! I admit I have been here, there and everywhere this year so blog updating got put on the way back burner. It is now almost October and you might be wondering what is going on?!
January 2018 was AMAZING! I ran the WDW Marathon and completed a distance I NEVER thought I would do. It was such a great experience and I made wonderful friends that weekend. We planning on Dopey 2020! (Not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to that one). If you are going to run a marathon for fun, I say 100% it must be Disney. The energy and crowd support is out of this world. Plus where else can you jump on a roller coaster after 13.1 miles for a little mid-race break? I did not do this race for time, but for fun and distance. We stopped for a bunch of characters, roller coaster, and potty breaks. Our run time was almost 2 hours less then the clock time haha! So you could say we had a BLAST!
The following weekend I was supposed to race in a local half marathon. Unfortunately I ended up sick and gave my bib away to someone who really wanted to run. I was sad because the Naples Daily News Half is one of my favorite local races with a fast, flat course. But the woman who raced in my place was very grateful and thats what it is all about! Love our running community!
February Started out by running the Florida A1A half in Ft. Lauderdale. This was said to be an amazing bucket list race. I planned on it being one that if I liked, I would do every year. Let me tell you that from my experience it was a 1 and done. Hotels were run down and crazy expensive (ok I know its Ft. Lauderdale), transportation was ok, support was ok and the course was eh. Overall I was not impressed and was ready to go home after 13.1 miles. I’m not sure how the marathoners did it. Only up side… the medal was pretty cool!
The end of the month it was back to Disney for a family fun Princess weekend! Yes if you can’t tell Disney races are by far my favorite and I can’t wait to get back to them. Princess weekend was no different in that we had all the fun! My family loves running Disney together and I love that we have created a healthy fun family activity. We ran the 10K together and I ran the half with a friend to complete the “new” fairy tale challenge (aka glass slipper challenge).
It was definitely a hot and humid weekend, which was a HUGE contrast from the freezing marathon weekend. We just took our time on the 10K stopping for pictures and laughs. I was pacing my friend for the half but when the sun came up she was starting to crash, so I told her lets just have fun and not worry about your PR. The conditions weren’t right and having fun is way better then feeling like crap/passing out. So we chilled that last 10K and still was only a few min off of a PR for her. Overall another awesome runDisney weekend in the books!
March was a more relaxed month for me. I completed a local charity race – run for the music 10K. This is one of my favorite shorter distance local races because the course is shaded and it supports music for children. Whats better then a great course and cause? Plus one of my favorite things is a harpist at the end with a monkey mask on! It just makes you laugh your way to the finish line!
April it was back to Disney to defeat the Dark Side! I am a legacy runner for this race, but we will see if I can pull off next year or not. Star Wars weekend is another family tradition. This year my oldest nephew (9) ran the 5K with his mom and dad! He was so proud of himself and I was proud that my passion for running has rubbed off. It took him a little to get going wth a 3am wake up call, but he finished strong and can’t wait to do it again! The next day we took on the 10K as a family. We didn’t pick a theme for this race because well honestly we didn’t plan ahead very well, so I made cute shirt for my SIL and myself and the boys wore whatever they wanted. Our shirts said “If I were a Jedi there is a 100% chance I would use the force inappropriately.” We felt they were very fitting and fun! It was another hot and humid Florida weekend so this race was all about not dying. But honestly FL humidity well catch up to you fast!
I ran the half solo the following day and my only goal was get an Ewok picture! I had dressed as one for the past 2 years and missed out every time… not this year! I was determined even if I have to sprint half the race. Goal accomplished! I got my picture and many more over my 13.1 adventure!
May was our much anticipated family Alaska Adventure! For the past year my family has been planning a Disney Alaska cruise. My husband and I added on another week prior to the cruise to explore the small town where he spent a summer as a rafting guide. It was the trip of a lifetime and we can’t wait to get back there! We got to experience so much and I must say if you are going to cruise, Disney is the only way. I have cruised may times and Disney has a standard like no other. Plus the experience of rotating dining and ship personal/shows were top notch!
June was a game changer. We came back from our magical Disney Alaska adventure with an extra unknown souvenir. The end of June we found out we were pregnant! We couldn’t be happier and that adds to the explanation of why I have been so MIA. I am still working out although my running adventures have slowed way down. We are excited to welcome our little explorer into the world come February 2019!
I hope y’all have had a great year and if you made it all the way down to the end of this… wow you are a rockstar! May the rest of 2018 bring you nothing but Love and Joy!
Till next time!
