Star Wars Dark Side 2017
Can you believe it has been over a month since I defeated the Star Wars Dark Side? Yeah, me neither! But I can believe it has taken me this long to put my thoughts together about it… oops! Life happens people and while I love recapping events when they are fresh in my head, that doesn’t always get to happen. So with a month old memory and some fun pictures, get ready y’all ’cause HERE, WE, GO!
I was at Walt Disney World for the whole Star Wars Dark Side event weekend (Thursday- Sunday). The 5K on Friday I participated in the Medical Team and had a blast watching runners achieve their goals (when I did pop in and out of the finish line tent). Luckily I didn’t see most of you first hand since I was in the critical care tent. Which means YAY, you made it without needing major medical attention….see I knew you could do it! 😉 Luckily for the whole race we only had 3 patients. Side note… people if you know you have asthma carry your inhaler. There is not much we can do in the medical tent without it. Overall it looked like a great race and the Finish Line DJs kept it real! Insert med team dance party…or maybe it was just me.
The 10K was my first running race for the weekend and I go to run with my family! Love being able to share this experience with them and it is even more fun when they go along with my costume ideas! My husband (Han Solo) and I (R2D2) started in corral B while my brother (Chewie) and sister (C3PO) started in A. They ran to the first character stop and waited for us. Surprisingly it didn’t take long to catch up! I can haul ass (for a short period of time) with the best of them. The course was a lot of fun since they changed it from last year. We got to run through 3 parks and the boardwalk area. My only complaint about the course were a few narrow areas. This makes it hard to get around other runners/walkers. But the area was so pretty it almost made up for it…..almost. We decided not to stop at many of the characters since we were having so much fun just running together. My favorite part was finishing and seeing the look on my brother and sisters faces since that was their first 10K and they CRUSHED IT!!! I am so proud of them! Seeing others achieve their goals is one of my favorite things in the world. Being able to celebrate as a family is even better.
The Half on Sunday I was flying SOLO for (pun-intended 😉 although I was an Ewok). I decided to embrace being short and rock out with my fellow Ewoks. Disney did am AMAZING job with the corral starts and the fireworks were awesome! I couldn’t believe that they had a bunch go off for every group starting, not just the first. Before I knew it my corral was up and ready to go! This Ewok was off to the races… or 13.1 miles. The course was similar to the 10K course as we got to run through 3 parks again. I personally LOVE running through the parks. I can never get a smile off my face when running through the magic. Disney also did a great job with entertainment when not in the parks. They had a wooded area that made it feel like you were running through a battle with sounds and lights going. They also had another area with sounds and lights to feel like light sabers were fighting around you. Pretty cool if you ask me! (Nerd Alert!)
Another fun thing they do is have “Disney music videos” or what I call the big screens with either movie clips playing or music and Disney characters dancing. That always brings a smile to my face as well. It was nice because they also had a TON of character stops. They had a few different locations throughout the course to take pics with Chewie or storm troopers, as well as many characters out for “selfies”. My only regret was that I didn’t wait in the Ewok line to get a pic with my fellow woks. It was the only really long line and honestly I just didn’t feel like waiting. So I took a Selfie instead and kept running. Looking back though I wish I bit the bullet and waited. Oh well I hope they bring them back for next year!
Overall it was one magical Star Wars weekend and I defeated the Dark Side! I loved the new course and being able to share the experience with my family. We are headed back next year (2018) for year 3! Looks like this girl might become a legacy runner ;). If you want the details on our costumes they can be FOUND HERE. Enjoy below some more of my pictures from the weekend and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
Cheers to many more Magical miles,
